Physiotherapy Consultation

 Physiotherapy Consultation

You do not require a referral to visit a physiotherapist however if you do have one then please bring it along as well as any relevant reports or scans (Xray, MRI, CT, ultrasound). Allow at least 45 minutes for initial consultations and 30 minutes for standard appointments. Often we will spend longer with you where possible.

You will be seen in one of our private rooms meaning you do not have to share your personal information with anyone other than your physiotherapist. We take patient confidentiality seriously and will not share your information with anyone without your permission. We do like to liase with other practitioners, doctors and personal trainers but only after discussing this with you first.

What do we treat?

These are just some of the condition we manage:

  • Sprains and Strains
  • Lower back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Postural conditions
  • Headaches
  • Overuse injuries
  • Sports Injuries
  • Workplaces Injuries
  • Reconstructive surgery such as joint replacement and reconstruction and soft tissue repair
  • Women’s health issues, for example:  pregnancy-related pelvic girdle pain, post-natal rehabilitation and pelvic floor conditions
  • Joint Arthritis

The initial physiotherapy consultation

At Focus Physiotherapy, expect your initial consultation to consist of the following components:

  • History taking – a period of time where we listen to your description of your condition and ask you specific questions to develop a detailed understanding of your reasons for seeking physiotherapy treatment.
  • Physical assessment – we may need to assess your posture, gait or running style, test you functionally (ie. how you perform everyday activities such as stairs) and also assess any relevant joints, muscles, ligaments, tendons or nerves depending on your actual problem. We will then discuss the examination findings with you and recommend an action plan that takes into account your personal goals.
  • Treatment begins – Our passion is in providing effective management options such as joint mobilisation or manipulation, soft tissue release, other specialised manual techniques, taping, dry needling, postural advice and education, specific exercise prescription and gait analysis.

Follow-up Physiotherapy Consultation

Allow 30 minutes for follow-up consultations.  We will ask you specific questions about how you have felt in between appointments and reassess the body region.  Treatment will begin in earnest during your second visit.

Home exercise is an important component of the road to recovery so commonly we prescribe a home exercise program which we deliver to you via Physiapp.  Download the app onto your ios or android phone to receive clear exercise videos you can take anywhere.  We can also provide you with the same exercises on paper or via email of you prefer.   We will always ensure you have a good understanding of your self-management strategies to maximise your outcome.

Please email or phone us if you have any concerns or questions about your condition or treatment. We do not take phone calls during other patients’ treatment time,  however our physiotherapists will happily returns calls in between appointments.
